We’ve had a busy start to fall semester, as our lab just grew by over 200%! Meet the newest students in our lab below.

Gabi Gee, MSc Student

Gabi comes to us with a wealth of experience as a sand fly technician in Dr. Nathan Peters’ lab at VetMed. She will be leading our flea beetle project exploring their overwintering physiology and temperature sensitivity of diapause emergence.

Nawanjani Pathinayake, PhD student

Nawanjani received her MSc from Queen’s University where she explored the impacts of wildfire smoke on Drosophila life history and physiology. She is our new resident mitochondriac, and will be tackling questions on all things diapause and CPB mitos!

Alexandra Dvorak, MSc student

Alexandra has moved up the ranks form volunteer, to PURE/528 student, to newly minted MSc student! She is our resident cell biologist who will be exploring cellular mechanisms of tissue regeneration in diapausing CPB.
