Nawanjani Pathinayake

PhD Student

I am a molecular biologist interested in how cells respond to environmental challenges and help animals adapt to their surroundings. During my MSc at Queen’s University, I worked with Drosophila melanogaster to explore molecular responses to wildfire smoke. I am excited to join the Lebenzon Lab as a PhD student and study the cellular mechanisms that allow overwintering Colorado potato beetles to survive low temperatures. Outside the lab, I enjoy spending time with friends, exploring nature, trying good food, and discovering new places.
